British rapper Skepta was asked to leave the British Grand Prix a fortnight ago amidst concerns he was in possession of illegal drugs.

The grime artist is understood to have been a guest of Formula One during practice and qualifying sessions at Silverstone and had been due to attend the race a few days later, which was won by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

Formula One fan Skepta completed a hot lap with McLaren’s Lando Norris and mingled with fans in the paddock ahead of a launch party for the Grand Prix on 6 July, but was later ejected after officials claimed they could smell cannabis whilst he was conducting media interviews.

The 40-year-old’s invitation to the race itself was revoked, although his sporting weekend was not entirely ruined as he attended the middle Sunday at Wimbledon instead.

Verstappen has a commanding lead at the head of the Drivers Championship which resumes this weekend with the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest. A spokesperson for Formula One declined to comment on their treatment of Skepta. Mail Sport has reached out to Skepta’s representatives for comment.
