Ashley Brewer marries NBA center Frank Kaminsky in Mexico wedding, one week after ESPN layoff

Former SportsCenter anchor Ashley Brewer tied the knot with NBA center Frank Kaminsky, just one week after she was laid off by ESPN.

The happy couple celebrated their wedding in Los Cabos, Mexico on Friday in front of their friends and family.

The newly-weds were legally married in a Los Angeles courthouse in April, according to the Wisconsin State-Journal, before celebrating their vows again south of the border.

Kaminsky, 30, reportedly proposed to Brewer, 31, in Maui last summer after the couple met in 2017.

After beginning dating, they landed in different areas of the country with Kaminsky playing for the Charlotte Hornets, Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings and Brewer, who swam collegiately at Texas and USC, beginning her career in sports media.

The swimmer-turned-sportscaster shared photos of their stunning nuptials to her 182,000 Instagram followers Friday.

Brewer was seen wearing a stunning off-the-shoulder, full-skirt wedding dress as she and her new husband beamed under the Mexican sun.

She kept the look simple but effective, wearing her golden tresses loose with a floor-length white veil flowing down from the back.

She appeared to change into a second look for the evening’s festivities as she was spotted in a strappy, tight-fitting fishtail dress in a photo of her and Kaminsky, who donned a white tux and black bowtie for the occasion, sharing an intimate moment on the dance floor.

The look was seemingly topped off with a beautiful pair of pearl and bead-encrusted Jimmy Choo high heels, seen in a separate post.

Brewer shared a photo of herself kissing Kaminsky at the altar, overlooking the picturesque, white sandy beach.

The white aisle was adorned with gorgeous bouquets of white flower, while the reception venue added sparkle with more floral arrangements and disco balls hanging from the ceiling.

Clearly in party mood, Brewer and Kaminsky were seen letting loose in photos on social media with the NBA player sipping out of his suit jacket, losing his tie and undoing his shirt buttons.

Kaminsky remains a free agent but was selected No. 9 overall in the 2015 Draft by the Hornets following a collegiate career at Wisconsin.

However, he has failed to start more than 16 games in a season across his career due to time missed through injury and  in 36 combined games between Atlanta and Houston, he averaged 2.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

Meanwhile, Brewer has made various appearances on ‘SportsCenter’ since September of 2020 after previously serving as a host for ‘SportsNation’ and co-hosting the Sunday night edition of ESPN Radio’s ‘GameNight’.

However, as part of ESPN’s continuing rollout of cuts and layoffs, Brewer was let go last week.

She revealed she was part of the cuts in a tweet last week, which also teased her nuptials.

‘I am so grateful for my time at ESPN and the opportunity to host Sportscenter. I learned and grew so much as a broadcaster and person,’ Brewer said.

‘I will really miss all of the wonderful friends I made along the way. I know God has a plan for my life and I look forward to what’s next.’

Last week marked a mass culling for ESPN as more than 20 on-air talents, including Brewer, were cut from their ranks.

Most notably, ESPN’s NBA coverage was stunted when they cut multiple commentators and analysts.

That includes Jeff Van Gundy – who had called 17 NBA Finals with the network, including the last 15 with play-by-play man Mike Breen and fellow color man Mark Jackson.

Both Breen and Jackson had been reported to be also included in the cuts and layoffs, but those were incorrect.

Joining the list of NBA layoffs was Jalen Rose, a veteran of ESPN since 2007 having covered both pro and college basketball as well as hosting numerous radio and talk shows.

In speaking of talk show hosts that were fired, ESPN cut ties with former First Take co-host Max Kellerman.

Kellerman also hosted a radio show with longtime NFL analyst Keyshawn Johnson and NBA analyst Jay Williams – who both also were let go.

Other big names to depart include Suzy Kolber, the longtime host of Monday Night Countdown as well as her co-host on that show, Hall-of-Famer quarterback Steve Young.

Kolber wrote on Twitter: ‘Today I join the many hard-working colleagues who have been laid off.

‘Heartbreaking – but 27 years at ESPN was a good run. So grateful for a 38 yr career!

‘Longevity for a woman in this business is something I’m especially proud of. Next step- a project that gives back.’

Matt Hasselbeck, the former NFL quarterback who featured on Sunday NFL Countdown was also let go.

Todd McShay, a long time NFL draft and college football analyst was also cut from the network.

Other college sports personalities who were axed from the network include longtime College GameDay member David Pollack and college basketball analysts Jordan Cornette and Laphonso Ellis.

In a statement provided to Front Office Sports on June 29, ESPN said:  ‘Given the current environment, ESPN has determined it necessary to identify some additional cost savings in the area of public-facing commentator salaries, and that process has begun.

‘This exercise will include a small group of job cuts in the short-term and an ongoing focus on managing costs when we negotiate individual contract renewals in the months ahead.

‘This is an extremely challenging process, involving individuals who have had tremendous impact on our company.

‘These difficult decisions, based more on overall efficiency than merit, will help us meet our financial targets and ensure future growth.’

Others laid off include writers Joon Lee and Nick Friedell as well as ESPN Radio host Jason Fitz.
